PROGRESS PAGE

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Progress

Our chapter and the members of California Zeta chapter of Pi Beta Phi work toward positive discussions on the topic of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Historically, the Greek System as a whole has failed to dismantle and correct the discriminatory practices upon which the organizations were built on. The California Zeta chapter of Pi Beta Phi calls on all members to become more educated allies and to make active commitments towards bettering themselves and our communities. The vision of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women is to be recognized as a premier organization for individuals by providing lifelong enrichment to its members and contributing to the betterment of society. We hope this is the foundation for ongoing discussions and reflection within the California Zeta chapter of Pi Beta Phi to make more robust commitments to bettering society in the years to come.

Civic Engagement

In order to effectively educate members and get them involved in our community, all members are required to complete one act of civic engagement per quarter. Civic engagement includes a plethora of culturally enriching and community informing events. With the civic engagement requirement, members become immersed within our community and become culturally educated on recent events and public relations.

Community Relations

At the California Zeta Chapter of Pi Beta Phi, we value community service and giving back. In order to give back to our community, every member completes at least 6 hours of community service per quarter and are encouraged to get involved in community efforts. Spring 2023 our chapter accumulated the most service hours within our Greek community! Members are presented a plethora of service opportunities, including CAR (Champions are Readers), fundraisers, and community events. In addition to the community service requirement, our Community Relations team hosts quarterly fundraising events with all proceeds going toward children's literacy.

Concluding Remarks
Promise to Members from Executive Council
The chapter's mission is to uphold principles of integrity and political responsibility within Greek organizations. It is imperative for all members to champion what is right and serve as exemplars for the chapter. Emulating the dedication of Pi Phi sister, Carrie Chapman Catt, leaders are encouraged to vocalize their stance on pertinent issues, whether internal or external to the chapter. The Executive Council carries the onus of guiding the chapter on all matters. They must realize the power of their platform and employ it for the betterment of the organization and the broader community. Purposeful language and the celebration of diverse perspectives are paramount. Encouraging growth and forgiveness for well-intentioned efforts to rectify biases are also essential. Together, the chapter is committed to being on the right side of history. Each member acknowledges that their actions reflect on the entire organization, and they pledge to remain receptive when confronted about racial insensitivity or bias. It's understood that growth is an ongoing process, and holding one another accountable to Pi Beta Phi standards is a shared responsibility. In the event of failures, members commit to understanding and accepting consequences.
